When Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday, as it does this year, you have a whole weekend to share with a loved one and show them how much you care. Now some of you may be looking forward to this with some trepidation but don’t worry as there are some great guides out there to help you through this ‘lovers’ weekend.
One of the best we found is in Cosmopolitan Magazine who’ve published a great guide on some inexpensive Valentine’s Day ideas that won’t break the bank.
The day is famous for lovers sending cards and gifts anonymously to a special ‘loved’ one but where did the tradition come from? Well as with many celebrations in the West, the day is linked back to early Christianity and the Roman times. A popular account goes back to Saint Valentine of Rome who was imprisoned for performing weddings for both marrying soldiers who were not allowed to marry and ministering to early Christians. St Valentine is also said to have healed the daughters of one of his jailors and just before his execution wrote a farewell letter which he signed ‘Your Valentine’.
Valetine’s Day is not a national public holiday but it is generally celebrated around the world. As well as providing an opportunity for giving gifts, the day leeds to a dramatic increase in cards, flowers, chocolates, sweets and other gifts. A day like Valentine’s can also give promotional opportunities and we find it one of the best for ‘heart’ shaped gifts and merchandise from heart shaped stress balls and key rings to Loveheart sweets.
We hope you have a fantastic Valentine’s Day and if you have a related promotion and want some ideas that you could use in a marketing promotion beforehand please do contact us on 0800 158 3080.
