Magnetics Guide For Promotional Items
About Magnetic Materials
The dark brown material is usually magnetic on one side only and is available in various thicknesses. In general, the thicker the material the stronger the magnetic effect and unfortunately the higher the cost. The thinnest material, 0.4mm magnet + 0.1mm face material is suitable for most fridge magnets. A slightly thicker magnetic material, 0.5mm magnet + 0.1mm face material has a stronger magnetic effect and best suited for magnetic word poetry.
The two thinner magnets can also be faced with a thicker expanded PVC to give a 2mm chunky effect. Thicker material at 0.7mm is mainly used for magnetic indexes and magnetic signage. Very small magnets may need to be made from 0.5mm material to ensure a strong enough magnetic effect. We can advise.

Cutting the material
Magnetic material cannot be stacked square so it cannot be cut satisfactorily in a guillotine. Even simple square cuts have to be hand fed into cutting machines and a cutting form is required. Magnetic material can be cut to virtually any shape or size, though obviously the cutting tools for more complex shapes are more expensive. You can get a good idea of what is possible from our samples. Rectangular fridge magnets with square corners make most efficient use of material but shaped magnets usually look best.
Preparing and printing your design
Simple designs can be screen printed. More complex designs or those requiring four colour process can be printed 4 colour process either digitally or by offset litho. Designs should have a background design bleeding over the edge (1.5mm) or an unprinted 2mm border all around the design. PMS references should be used throughout for screen printed jobs.
Working In Partnership
We strongly advise you to contact us at an early stage. We will work closely with you to develop your project. Use our experience to get the best possible product for the least cost. If you need a price, it's helpful if you know the shape, size, quantity, print information and any special packaging requirements. We can then work out a price for you very quickly. Ideas for products and preliminary designs and can be sent to us in any form, even a faxed sketch (works of art not required at the outset) is helpful. We can receive data by fax, e-mail or ISDN. Mock-ups and models sent to us will be handled confidentially, with care and returned when required. And of course, we are very happy to send you samples.
Screen Print
You should supply the completed design in a format that we can accept, ready for output. High resolution scans must be in place and spot colour separated. Low resolution scans give poor results. PMS references should be used throughout for screen printed jobs. Very fine print, particularly if reversed out, may not print very well.
